Stephen J. Siegel's financial consulting practice, Responsible Planning & Investing, focuses on providing socially and environmentally sound financial plans and investments congruent with his clients' values. We help our clients develop holistic strategies that reflect their financial, personal and social goals. Responsible Planning & Investing provides independent socially responsible investment and financial consulting services for individuals, trusts, businesses and nonprofits.

Our clients' core values and life goals are the starting point and guiding light of our professional relationships. At our free, initial consultation, we typically spend much of the time discussing what is important in your life and how those objectives impact your financial decisions. Together, we develop goals and priorities, and a sense of how we can best work together to achieve those goals. Stephen's client services include establishing investment strategies and managing portfolios for specific goals as well as comprehensive financial planning. Plans can address risk assessment and management, investment management, tax considerations, and estate/charitable gift planning. Our particular strengths include helping clients establish investment policies that support their values, explore sophisticated techniques for planned giving, and plan for the effective transfer of their estates. We work with our clients in fee-based relationships, with fees dependent on the extent of services provided and/or the quantity of funds under management. Consulting services can also be arranged for an hourly fee or at an agreed upon fixed amount.

Stephen J. Siegel is an Investment Advisory Representative of First Affirmative Financial Network, LLC, a nationwide network of investment professionals specializing in socially and environmentally responsible investing and an independent Registered Investment Advisor registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Investment advisory services are provided through First Affirmative with Charles Schwab & Co. and Foliofn as custodian.

Stephen has been a member of the Social Investment Forum (SIF) since 1989. SIF is the national organization of professionals dedicated to promoting the concept and practice of socially responsible investing as an effective way to make financial and business decisions.
Additionally, Mr. Siegel is an active member of the Financial Planning Association, Chesapeake Planned Giving Council, Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations, and National Committee on Planned Giving.

Education and Experience

Stephen J. Siegel has worked as a financial consultant since 1987 and has been a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER, or CFP certificant since 1990. In 2003, he earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) designation, awarded by the Center for Fiduciary Studies, associated with the University of Pittsburgh, after receiving formal training in investment fiduciary responsibility. He also holds annuity, life, and health insurance licenses. Prior to establishing Responsible Planning & Investing in 1991, Stephen was affiliated with First Financial Group, in Towson, Maryland. He has served as a representative for the National Association of Doctors, organizing and conducting practice and financial management conferences to supplement hospital residency training programs. With an education and background in engineering, banking and advertising management, Stephen J. Siegel applies a wealth of experience to developing real-world solutions to his clients' concerns.

Community Involvement

Stephen J. Siegel has a long history of community activism. He has been a featured guest on the TV show "Making a Difference." He volunteers his time each year to provide training and lead roundtable discussions for the member organizations of the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations. Stephen has served as PTA president, Cubmaster of his sons' Scout Pack, and treasurer of his religious congregation. He is a founding member and treasurer of earthome, an educational environmental and social justice organization that is committed to community-supported agriculture and to changing the way that people think about their relationships to the earth and to each other.
